This wine has a strong brier orientation, layered with dried cherries
and stone fruit. Red and black currants accompany a sweet note
of Irish cream derived from the American oak barrels used during
aging. Dried fruit flavors and moderate tannins and acidity give this
wine wonderful versatility across seasons and recipes.
Our Zinfandel comes from the more inland and northerly areas of
Mendocino County, near Redwood Valley and Potter Valley. A gap in
the coastal mountain range that runs through the heart of Mendocino County offers a stark diurnal
temperature shift between day and night. This keeps varieties such as
Zinfandel from developing too ripe and keeping the briery character
many Zinfandel lovers cherish. The soil profile of this region developed
mostly from the Russian River as it carved through the seismically
active mountain ranges. Benchland soils are well drained and give
grapevines the necessary hardships to make quality wines.
